Dyslexia Progress Monitoring Evaluation: Standardized Annual Assessments to Track Growth and Optimize Support
This evaluation is designed to assess literacy growth in children with a Specific Learning Disability in Reading (Dyslexia) or who receive
special education services under the category Specific Learning Disability/Dyslexia. Our goal is to ensure that families have the data needed to determine if their child is making meaningful progress in their literacy program.
What is the best way to determine if your child’s literacy program is effective?
While schools may conduct standardized individually-administered achievement testing, it typically occurs only once every three years. In between these standardized evaluations, progress monitoring is typically qualitative and not norm-referenced, meaning they provide general insights but lack precise, standardized comparisons.
We believe that annual, standardized assessments are the only way to ensure that interventions are effective and that no valuable time is wasted.
Sasco River Center’s standardized annual testing is a key part of our data-driven approach to evaluation. If the evaluation shows the child is making expected progress, it confirms that their literacy program is effective and should continue. If not, adjustments—such as additional support, modified instruction, or more learning time—can be made.
What Does Our Dyslexia Progress Monitoring Evaluation Include?
- Targeted literacy testing performed annually using individually administered, standardized, norm-referenced assessment tools
(testing can often be completed in only one session !)
- Tests administered are directly compared to prior evaluations to assess progress (“apples to apples”) at 12-month intervals
- Parents receive a feedback session overviewing progress as well as a written report with test data and related recommendations
*Please note: Standardized achievement testing must be completed at least one year prior before participating in our progress monitoring program, so that we are able to compare scores over time. The initial testing can be done by your child’s school, Sasco River Center, or another private evaluator.
