Lanae Coleman is a pre-licensed clinician at Sasco River Center. She is currently completing her predoctoral internship through the Connecticut Psychology Consortium in pursuit of a PhD in Educational Psychology with a specialization in School Psychology from UCONN. Lanae holds a BA in psychology from UCLA and a MA in school psychology from UCONN.
Lanae’s approach to assessment and therapy is driven by an ecological systems perspective and cognitive-behavioral theoretical orientation (CBT). Her practice is further informed by acceptance based (ACT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) for a range of emotional and behavioral disorders. Lanae is also trained in evidence-based treatments for anxiety and trauma—Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) and Cognitive-Behavioral Interventions for Trauma in Schools (CBITS). She values social justice oriented and problem-solving approaches to collaborate with children and families to meet their goals.
Lanae has experience conducting psychoeducational evaluations and providing therapy across a variety of ages and settings—PK-12 public schools, residential treatment centers, and private practice. She has supported children and adolescents with anxiety, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and learning disabilities, and children with disruptive behaviors.
Since entering a scientist-practitioner focused doctorate program, Lanae has been involved in several research and clinical experiences. She has extensive experience providing school-based consultation to support student behavior including conducting functional behavioral assessments (FBAs) and developing behavior intervention plans (BIPs). Her current research aims to develop a more time-efficient consultation approach in schools to better address students’ academic and behavioral needs. Lanae’s general interests/hobbies include traveling, running, hiking, and reading historical fiction books.
