Reaney Critchell is a psychotherapist who specializes in the treatment of children, adolescents, and adults using a range of modalities. She specializes in guiding parents and providing support for individuals facing anxiety, depression, emotional regulation and life transitions. Working with children, adolescents, and adults, her approach is rooted in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other proven, evidence-based methods, such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and solution focused therapy (SFT). These techniques are tailored to the unique needs of each person and their family dynamics. She collaborates closely with individuals and families, focusing on their strengths as key tools to navigate and overcome difficulties.
In addition to her counseling experience, Reaney was previously a classroom teacher which deepens her perspective on developmental, cognitive, and emotional struggles that may contribute to an individual’s concerns. Her prior experience also enables her to sympathize with the academic pressures that children face, and she understands the demands that may contribute to anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. Additionally, she is well versed as to how the school system works from both a teacher and parent perspective allowing her to easily navigate the administrative process to ensure appropriate support for individuals within the school system. Reaney leverages her teaching background to enhance her therapeutic approach, offering a deeper understanding of the child’s world both in and out of the classroom.
Reaney’s educational background includes a Master’s degree in Education from Fordham University and a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health from Sacred Heart University. Reaney has served on the Advisory Board as the student representative at Sacred Heart. She has served as a mentor to new students in the program and has assisted her professors in training new students on counseling techniques. Reaney was inducted in the Phi Kappa Phi Society this year for excellence in her academic achievements. When she is outside of the office she volunteers as a therapeutic riding coach and has worked extensively with organizations that support individuals with special needs.
