Timothy Schmutte, Psy.D., M.S., is licensed clinical psychologist with over 30 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. He has extensive experience providing individual and group therapy as well as conducting psychological evaluations in a variety of settings. Dr. Schmutte is also an Assistant Professor at the Yale Department of Psychiatry, where his research has received funding from the National Institute of Mental Health and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and resulted in over 50 publications and presentations on a range of mental health topics. In addition to teaching psychology and counseling courses to undergraduate and graduate students, Dr. Schmutte has also advised on the development of a curriculum for students in grades K-12 designed to help reduce mental health stigma and to teach techniques that promote resilience.
Dr. Schmutte’s approach is rooted in evidence-based psychotherapy, which are treatments that are supported by scientific studies. Using different models of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), he also incorporates a strengths-based approach (e.g., positive psychology) with a focus on wellness (e.g., sleep quality, meditation, and physical fitness). He specializes in helping people with anxiety, depression, ADHD and executive functioning challenges, and identity issues. Additionally, his experience as the stay-at-home parent provides a valuable understanding to his pediatric clients and parents.
When he isn’t discussing with his wife the latest podcast or movie, Timothy is probably at the gym or scheduling the next outdoor adventure for his family to do with friends.
