Austin Stokes, PsyD

Austin Stokes, MA, Psy.D., is a post-doctoral fellow at Sasco River Center, and graduated from the APA-accredited Adler University with a doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Substance Abuse Treatment. His clinical training in community mental health care to underserved populations in Chicago involved providing comprehensive psychological evaluations, individual therapy, and consultation to individuals across all ages. He completed his B.A. in Psychology at Skidmore College and received his M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Adler University in 2020. He has extensive experience in a variety of clinical settings, including therapeutic day schools,
neuropsychological private practices, and community mental health centers.

Austin has expertise working with children and young adolescents facing challenges associated with their unique developmental milestones and life transitions, including anxiety, emotion dysregulation, identity exploration, and social skills. His treatment approach is rooted in acceptance-based and relational therapy, and he uses authenticity and a focus on a person’s inherent strengths to foster meaningful changes aligned with their values. Austin specializes in mindfulness-based strategies, behavioral interventions, and comprehensive psychological evaluations.

He strives to make therapy and assessments a safe and supportive space in which creativity and collaboration can unfold for enlightening and lasting developments. Having trained in neuropsychological interventions and testing, he predominantly uses an integrative and individualized approach with a keen consideration for the person’s potential and unique life experiences. He uses warmth, humor, and a down-to-earth attitude when working closely with families, colleagues, and others involved in the treatment process, as well as experience providing at-home therapy for children on the autism spectrum. Austin strongly embraces all facets and expressions of diversity and has spent a great deal of time promoting and continually educating himself on progressing social justice. In his free time, Austin enjoys spending time with his wife, family, and friends, hiking, swimming, being outdoors, and playing music.
