Joseph Demers, PhD, is a licensed psychologist who specializes in psychoeducational, ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and learning disability evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults across Fairfield County. With a background as both a psychologist and former middle school teacher with additional literacy training through Columbia University’s Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, Dr. Demers integrates deep expertise in learning, behavior, and emotional functioning to develop individualized recommendations that translate directly into school and daily life supports. He also provides anxiety treatment using cognitive behavioral and skills-based approaches and works closely with families and school teams to support complex learning and emotional profiles, including twice-exceptional students and private school admissions cases. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Demers supervises trainees in psychological assessment and skills-based treatment.

Dr. Demers takes time to understand each client as an individual and integrates his experience as both a
psychologist and former educator when interpreting learning and behavioral profiles. This combined perspective
helps him develop recommendations that are practical, personalized, and directly applicable to school, home, and
daily functioning.

  • Dr. Demers provides comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults. These evaluations frequently address ADHD, autism spectrum differences, dyslexia and other reading disorders, math and writing disorders, executive functioning challenges, anxiety-related learning impacts, and complex learning profiles. His evaluations help families understand strengths and challenges and develop clear next steps for school supports and treatment planning.
  • Dr. Demers works with elementary school students, middle school students, high school students, college students, and adults. He frequently works with students experiencing attention difficulties, anxiety, learning disabilities, social challenges, and complex or twice-exceptional learning profiles.
  • Dr. Demers has experience evaluating twice-exceptional learners who demonstrate advanced abilities alongside learning, attention, or emotional challenges. His evaluations help clarify how strengths and challenges interact and support recommendations that allow students to access appropriate academic opportunities.
  • In addition to testing, Dr. Demers provides therapy for anxiety and related emotional challenges using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), DBT-informed strategies, executive functioning supports, and skills-based interventions tailored to each individual client.

  • Outside of work, Dr. Demers enjoys spending time with his daughters, writing music, and cycling
